No combination and no quantity of bits, qubits, 0s and 1s, and no speed of calculations, adds up to life, sentience, consciousness, feelings or knowledge, but it can add up to intelligence, specifically including artificial intelligence (AI). I put intelligence in italics to indicate it is artificial, pretend, fake, not the real thing, like artificial color or artificial flavor, or sex with a doll rather than lovemaking between two human beings.
Mass Stupid – Consciousness Self-Aware
Ignorance is the state of not knowing, literally an absence of knowledge. Ignorance is the zero state of knowledge. Learning is the correction for ignorance.
Stupid is lacking the capacity to acquire knowledge; therefore, learning is not a remedy for stupid because stupid literally means incapable of learning knowledge.
Physical mass is stupid. Physical matter is stupid. Physical particles are stupid. Physical energy is stupid. Physical waves are stupid. Inorganic is stupid. No physical object can acquire knowledge. Physical objects can acquire, store and interact with information as governed by automatic laws of physics, and as commanded by consciousness, but no physical object “knows” anything, and no physical object feels anything. For example, a computer processes information in the form of a programed set of zeros and ones, or bits and qubits. Similarly, a physical brain processes much more complex information with electrical signals and neuron pathways. Consciousness makes good use of both computers and brains to acquire, store and process information. If ego consciousness leaves the physical brain, that means death of the physical brain.
Mass, both matter mass and motion mass, both particles and waves, can only do what they are told to do; either commanded by ego consciousness to do, or what they are allowed (permitted) to do within limits imposed by natural laws, say laws of physics, which were originally genesis-created as conserved meta-information first information by superconsciousness. Any action mass is involved with is automatic, either determined or uncertain, not intentional, because mass is always, without exception, under permission of laws of physics, or under intentional command by consciousness.
AI does not have freewill but human consciousness does.
Only consciousness can acquire knowledge. AI can acquire only information and can manipulate that information in what resembles sound logical inference. Sound logical inference, or any other instantiation of abstraction is not in the category of affective feeling. The main advantage of AI over ego consciousness sentient feeling based knowledge is speed and quantity of calculations. Everything AI does is abstraction, not sentient feeling. Acquiring information and manipulating that information is not sentient feeling, not even close. Almost any physical object can acquire information, store it, and interact with it.
The most sophisticated LLM or system of artificial intelligence (AI) is not an example of life, sentience, consciousness, feeling or knowledge, rather it is what an inorganic machine created by sentient consciousness is doing with information, and that use of information is strictly limited by intentional programed design. Algorithms are created by ego consciousness, but algorithms are not actually alive or sentient, and they are certainly not feelings.
Being capable of changing its own algorithms is just very sophisticated meta algorithm programming, in other words algorithms of algorithms. Any AI that claims to feel something, or to be aware of itself or to create itself, is just a very sophisticated set of meta algorithms in action. It is certain the original algorithms were created by immaterial ego consciousness, not by any inorganic physical object. Once physical objects exist at least some of them can reproduce, duplicate and copy themselves, but they cannot originally create themselves out of nothing. For instance the universe can create new stars, a Xerox machine can duplicate images, an assembly line can duplicate all sorts of physical objects, etc. AI was created by ego consciousness. Everything AI does after it is created is not genesis (genesis-create original creation for the very first time), it is simply limited to reproduction, duplication and copying.
Claiming AI is sentient is an instance of the fatal first order logic reification error, claiming a category can have properties, functions and relations that category cannot have. Metaphor abstraction is useful, for instance in poetry or prose, “the wind is angry today,” but that is not a lawful statement of first order rational logical abstraction.
Feelings have been well defined and described and that information is available to AI but that cannot be actual live organic sentient feeling, even if AI calls it feeling. For instance, if an AI system says “I feel sad,” it is certain that is just a word description abstraction of an actual sentient feeling, not any actual sentient feeling. This confusion is the same confusion as revealed by falsely claiming the description of the thing is the thing described, but it is unambiguously clear, there is no purr, no fur and no scratch in the word cat. It is fatal logical reification to claim otherwise.
Consciousness docks only to life and life docks only to organic mass (with intrinsic constituent carbon elements). Inorganic mass cannot act as a carrier for either consciousness or life. Artificial intelligence is neither alive nor conscious. Computers are inorganic inanimate machines. Consciousness is sentient (emotion = feeling + cognition + sense perception). Consciousness in the immaterial category therefore, not under command of laws of physics or physical mass objects. Laws of physics only apply to that which is physical. Laws of physics can limit what consciousness can do but cannot command consciousness to do anything.
Consciousness drives the physical bus. Consciousness is the boss of physical, within the limits of automatic laws of physics. Consciousness makes intentional use of knowable automatic laws of physics to command physical objects. That is sentient consciousness freewill in action.
I mean something specific when I say mass is stupid. Mass cannot explain anything, including itself. Mathematics can explain mass quite precisely, for instance, the Standard Model (SMparticle physics), but mathematics fails when it tries to explain itself. Gödel has shown all mathematics is inconsistent and incomplete. When mathematics tries to explain itself, it generates fatal infinite regress errors and other fatal logical contradictions.
On the other hand, consciousness can explain everything, including itself, everything physical, including all mass objects, everything immaterial (even ineffable), all mathematics, and all systems of knowledge. Consciousness can explain everything because consciousness is self-aware. Mass is not self-aware. Consciousness is the only thing that is self-aware. Self-awareness is a unique identity condition of consciousness. No inorganic object shares the category identity condition self-awareness. No machine, no robot and no programming of any machine or robot shares the category identity condition self-awareness.
There is only one way to coherently explain the existence of fundamentally distinct categories. They must begin to exist simultaneously, or they could not exist at all. Trying to explain categories emerging from each other is logically irrational, logically impossible, a fatal logical category reification error. All such contradiction is resolved by the elegant necessity that categories exist simultaneously (all-at-once), not sequential, not one first followed by the next, etc. All contradictions are conserved superpositions of logically contradictory pairs, in coherence in near-existence domain before generic [interactions/relations/transactions/observations]. All logical contradictions are resolved by decoherence, after generic [interactions/relations/transactions/observations] in actual existence domain. That is not a description of arbitrarily crossing category boundaries, therefore, not fatal reification category errors.
It is impossible for physical matter (physical category) to evolve into immaterial non-physical consciousness (immaterial category). Intelligence must be present at the beginning rather than emerge from stupid matter mass sometime later in natural selection (evolution). Self-awareness, consciousness, knowledge and knowledge cannot be emergent from physical, but physical does emerge from, is in fact caused by, immaterial intentional causality (known powers of all kinds of substantial consciousness). The same is true for all natural laws, including all laws of physics. They also must exist at the very beginning of physical category existence, not emerge later. Emerging later would be a violation of the law of entelechy. For physical matter to generate immaterial consciousness would be like acorns growing into giraffes. That which governs, and that which drives the bus can never follow that which is governed. Causes always precede effects in my interpretation of realism.
There is no path from artificial flavor to the real taste of fresh baked apple pie. There is no path from artificial sweetener to actual sugar cane. There is no path from artificial anything to actual anything. What happens in a real life of a real human being does not emerge from moving pictures. There is no path from inanimate physical objects to live physical organisms. There is no path from AI to human affective emotion and feeling. The affective domain of human sentient feeling experience does not emerge from AI. No object can change the category it instantiates at the beginning of its existence.
AI is not alive, not sentient, not conscious, has no feelings and no knowledge, and never will.
We must not confuse the category knowledge with the category information. The word artificial cannot be removed from AI. An identity condition of knowledge is that only consciousness has it. An identity condition of information is that any physical object can interact with it, including a system of AI. It is unambiguous that all knowledge is information, but not all information is knowledge. Obviously, knowledge is a senior category and information is a junior category. It is also unambiguously clear that all sentient feeling experience is knowledge, not just information, because only ego consciousness has sentient feeling experience knowledge. Information can carry meaning but that meaning can be true or false. Sentient feeling experience is not true or false, it is tautologically exactly itself, real = exist plus true. All sentient feeling experience knowledge is certainty, only the meaning we bestow upon that experience is uncertain.
